BERSAMA is an exhibition of modern and contemporary art that explores the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia. Artists are essential builders of the cultural bridge between these two nations, encouraging dialogue instead of disharmony. Malaysian artists have, over the decades, often turned to Indonesia’s intellectual and artistic wellspring for inspiration. The exhibition will also include works by their Indonesian counterparts who have similarly explored Malaysian culture and context.
A broad selection of artists, including Hoessein Enas, Basoeki Abdullah, Syed Ahmad Jamal, AD Pirous, Ahmad Zakii Anwar and Jumaadi, illustrates the interaction that inspires creative individuals to look beyond the horizons of their own national space, seizing the intellectual opportunities offered by their neighbours.
