ENGBM

This year marks the 59th year that Malaysia celebrates its independence. Since 1957, Malaysia has produced numerous artists who are internationally renown. The Central Bank of Malaysia, which was established in 1959, has played an important role since the early 1960s, stimulating the art market by acquiring local works and collaborating with artists by organising exhibitions.

The ‘MERDEKA 59’ exhibition showcases a diversity of 59 artworks collected by the Bank, including a painting from 1959 by Cheong LaiTong. Soon after, there is 'Happy Family' (1960s) by Chuah Thean Teng, which depicts what most Malaysians wish for: a harmonious and prosperous country. Other artists whose works are highlighted in this exhibition are Hoessein Enas, Syed Ahmad Jamal, Yusof Ghani, Victor Chin, Shafie Hassan, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Bayu Utomo Radjikin and Fauzul Yusri.
