Timely yet timeless, the ‘Malaysia: 60 Somethings’ exhibition is held in conjunction with 60 years of independence. Not a typical chronological Merdeka offering, ‘Malaysia: 60 Somethings’ places emphasis on nation building, as demonstrated by the convergence of fascinating events, artefacts, documents and photographs on display.
This amalgamation of all things Malaysian is intended to connect visitors with history. This encompasses memorable artefacts; like the ‘Nash Rambler Convertible M4442’ driven by Tunku Abdul Rahman to declare the independence date, the hugely significant Federation of Malaya Independence Act 1957 and the Rahman Talib Report that helped elevate the education standards of early Malaysians. Adding a different sort of harmony to the exhibition is the elements of lifestyle including among others a bicycle, television and citizenship certificate of the same era.
This exhibition also features collectibles from the prominent guardians of Malaysia’s history and heritage under one platform including the Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Memorial, National Archive of Malaysia, Pos Malaysia Berhad, Muzium Telekomunikasi Negara, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), National Mosque of Malaysia, Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA), NSTP Archive, National Registration Department, The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) and Malaysia Design Archive (MDA).
Bukan hanya satu kronologi tipikal, ‘Malaysia: 60 Cetera’ mempamerkan penekanan tentang pembangunan negara bangsa melalui gabungan rakaman peristiwa penting, artifak-artifak, dokumen-dokumen dan foto-foto bersejarah.
